Name and Number: Helen Diaconis || Number 3.14
Nation: Ancient Greece.
Gender: Female.
Age: 33.
Role: Math teacher - Geometry, Algebra I & II, and Pre-Calculus.
Birthday: March 5th.
Team: White.
Personality: Helen is, more than anything, motherly. Her patience is quite impressive, stemming from being elder sister to several siblings, and she constantly worries about people she cares about, whether they've eaten enough or if they're catching a cold. Of course, she's certainly quite willing to lend a hand to anybody that should need it - from students struggling through conics to teachers needing an extra cup of coffee.
She also tries hard to maintain a dignified exterior, if only to hide some of her less-than-dignified actions from the past. Her sense of justice and responsibility may be strong, but she still considers herself in the prime of her youth and feels obligated to live as such.
Though not easily angered, when provoked, Helen has the fury typical of a spiteful Greek goddess. Luckily, this doesn't happen often at all. She usually is content with making passive-aggressive remarks towards whomever she harbors ill-intent towards.
History: Helen was born in the quiet Greek countryside to a kind couple that ran the local library. As such, she always had plenty of access to books and was thus imbued with a hunger for knowledge and academia. Her childhood passed by without much event, just day-to-day simple pleasures. Helen cared for her brothers and sisters deeply, teaching them what she'd learned from school or from browsing another heavy tome at the library.
Soon it came time for Helen to go to college. She received high marks in high school, so she was presented with the opportunity to study abroad in the United States. Leaving her family had never once occurred to her, as she couldn't possibly imagine life without them - but her parents encouraged her to take the scholarship. After all, there was much to be learned in the world, and different experiences was certainly one of the best ways to do it.
So, she boarded the plane to the U.S. and actively began her studies, focusing mostly on mathematics. Her troubles started when a few of her classmates called her out on being overly studious and a killjoy. Well. She'd show them! Except, in doing such, her grades slipped and she gained a new reputation as a girl living without moderation. Because of this, her worried parents decided that she ought to spend some time in the armed forces - not at the forefront of battle, but perhaps some behind the scenes work.
Helen decided to work in intelligence for a while, acting as one that helped to plan missions and organize the dozens of files at headquarters. She was alright at it, but soon enough the stress began to take its toll on her, and she quit a few years after.
She didn't even consider becoming a teacher until one of her colleagues told her that, given her personality, it might be a good occupation for her. As a result, Helen also took on a teaching degree, graduating with honors and looking forward to finding a job.
Her first few teaching jobs passed by without much incident. She just felt like she wanted something...a little more. Somehow, through a series of coincidences, she found herself at the World Academy. It seemed like a fairly innocuous place, so she figured that she might as well give it a go. Teaching international students seemed like fun!
School Identity: Helen is a math teacher that covers several years of curriculum, so she has the pleasure of becoming acquainted with a good majority of the students attending the academy. She considers all of her students to be almost like her own children and cares for them deeply, always willing to answer questions and the like. Of course, she's always in tears during graduation and other going-away parties. She's probably one of the few that can actually say that she enjoys her job - except when she has detention proctor duty. Eugh.
Helen is also the sponsor for The Society of Appreciation of Special Male and Male Relationships. She's a pretty open kind of person, so she agreed without much trouble to watching over the rambunctious girls (and boys) during meetings.
Skills: Math. She likes math. She is good at math. But, other than that, she retained enough from her intelligence-assisting days to know how to properly execute a plan of attack and how to keep a filing cabinet organized enough that anybody can find what they want. Patience can also probably be considered one of her skills as it can seem endless at times.
In her free time, she likes to study up on philosophy, taking interest in how people consider the fundamental problems of life. She can also cook up a mean spanakopita.
RP Sample: Though the chair was uncomfortable and a blister had begun to form on the heel of her foot from the new shoes she had decided to wear that day, Helen found herself smiling softly as she looked upon all of the students' beaming faces from her seat on the stage during the assembly marking the beginning of school. Beaming...would probably be a stretch, as the students either looked bored out of their minds, hungry, or itching to run out of the door; but still! It was the principle of the matter. The start of a new school year was always promising to her. New faces in her classroom, new minds to foster and cultivate - all in good fun.
Speaking of principles, the principal started to speak about the upcoming year. A new set of rules and a school-wide competition between two teams...huh. It sounded interesting, but Hellen had to admit that she didn't really want to oppose anybody. She'd already decided on being neutral before the principal had even finished speaking.
The naming of all the students began and Hellen paid close attention. It wouldn't be possible to remember each and every one of their new codenames so quickly, but at least she'd be vaguely familiar with their faces. She sighed and tugged on one of the loose curls from her hair, already feeling slightly concerned for the students that stuttered while making their decision for which team they wanted to be on.
Soon enough it was time for the teachers to introduce themselves. One Mr. 404 had already given his bit before her, though he was missing from the stage. The control box, most likely, but still. She frowned. Letting people see his face wouldn't be such a hassle, now would it? Her head shook slightly as she uncrossed her legs and stood up to speak into the microphone. "Haha, that's a hard act to follow...ahem. I'm Ms. 3.14 and I'd prefer to be addressed as such. I am one of the resident Math teachers - Geometry, Algebra I, II, and Pre-Calculus - so I look forward to getting to know some of you in my classes. As for the competition....mm. I'll be on the White team, if it's alright. Let's have a great year together, everyone."
She smiled before turning around and walking back to her seat, the back of her shoe continuing to chafe against her heel - she made a mental note to wear socks next time.
Other: Er...I've never played Mama Greece before, but I figured that since there was a lack of a math teacher...I'd step up and fill in that spot. If anybody would like to be involved in her history, please let me know! And, um. Same thing if there are any problems with anything else. I'd be more than happy to fix things.
