Name and Number: Honda Kiku :: Number 108.
Nation: 日本国 :: Nihon-koku :: Japan
Gender: Male.
Age:....i-it's a secret.
Year: Third year.
Birthday: February 11th.
Team: Red.
Personality: Soft-spoken, shy, and usually quiet, Kiku is quite serious when it comes to most everything, due to his traditional upbringing. It's also due to how he was raised that he often finds difficulty in expressing his true feelings. He tries hard to find outlets to open up more to people and to be able to voice his opinion, but he still needs a good amount of time to adjust to change. Despite this, he remains fairly curious about different cultures and things and is quite willing to learn about others. He is quick to apologize and quick to panic, especially with physical contact. Despite his slender frame and meek disposition, he carries a warrior-spirit and places great value in honor, loyalty, and courtesy.
Being a not-so-closet otaku, he can be noted to play plenty of video games in his spare time, to work on doujinshi, to see the world as an RPG, and to prefer 2-D girls to 3-D ones.
History: Kiku was abandoned at birth, but luckily, a strange Chinese boy took him in and raised him for a while. It was during that time Kiku learned how to draw, write, and create different contraptions, mainly to show the other boy, who was now an older brother figure to him. However, as time went by and Kiku grew older, their relationship strained and Kiku clashed with his brother, finally culminating in his rebellion. It left a disfiguring scar across the Chinese boy's back.
Once he ran away, it wasn't long before he was picked up by the police and sent to live under surrogate parents. They were a kind couple, who lived in and managed a shrine just outside of Tokyo. Kiku spent sometime alone in his room at first, dealing with the guilt of doing such a thing to his adopted brother and being unwilling to get to know his new parents; however, after a time, he was touched by his adoptive parents' kindness and decided it was time he change himself and open up to them. From them, he learned the traditional values that he holds so dear and gained many of his habits and mannerisms. His heart grew kinder, and he took to taking in stray animals, including a dog named Pochi.
Soon, his parents decided that it was time for Kiku to experience and learn more of the world. Against his preliminary wishes, they applied for Kiku to attend a boarding school in America. It was then that Kiku went into another period of isolation, feeling great resentment towards having to leave. Eventually, he decided that it was...probably not a bad idea, and that he could gain experience points in doing so, hopefully level up a couple times, and increase his stats. Agreeing, he got onto the plane and waved good-bye to his comfort zone.
School Identity: This will be Kiku's first year in attendance at the school, as he spent his first two years of high school in Japan. He keeps rather low-key, though he can be found eating lunch on the rooftop and sipping tea on the steps to the dorm when there's a full moon out. When no one is around, he likes to tend to the school gardens, taking a simple pleasure in watching a plant grow little by little, day by day. He is also the school newspaper photographer, due to his uncanny ability for taking sneaky shots of people.
Skills: Kiku has a knack for cleaning and for cooking, though only Japanese-style dishes. It's been said that he would make a perfect housewife, though he desperately hopes it was a joke. Besides that, he is reasonably skilled in drawing (though only in the manga/anime style), and has talent in taking care of pets and plants. When it comes to studying, he is focused and serious, putting education in a top-priority spot. When it comes to the school, he tries his hardest to do his part in the community, feeling like it's his obligation. He is a fairly good spy, due to his in-born shinobi skills; he can also wield a katana with relative ease, stemming from practicing kendo at home with his father.
RP Sample: As the students filed into the auditorium, a short boy with dark hair and neat bangs that framed his face straggled to the back, afraid to come into contact with the hustle and bustle of all the people squeezing into the room. Once inside, he took a seat in the back, at the very edge, wringing his hands slightly.
The principal begun speaking about the rules of the school. Kiku listened intently, unwilling to miss any detail and taking it as an opportunity to refresh his memory about certain customs at the school. They were all so strange still. He sighed, slumping a little before shifting slightly and sitting back up.
But then, the principal began speaking about teams and a competition and having to improve skills and....it felt like his stomach had begun to twist itself into a knot. W-What was going on? His eyebrows pulled together and he stiffened, already uncomfortable with the idea.
The loud booming voice on the microphone began to list off country names and numbers and Kiku panicked, trying to think of the positives. W-Well, there would be a chance to meet new people. A-And learn about new cultures. A-And m-maybe try some new food and g-get some inspiration for doujin and if they're nice, maybe show them s-some inventions. R-Right?
...Right? He had trouble believing himself and his frantic thought was interrupted by the principal announcing, "Male. Japan. Number 108."
"A-Ah..." One-oh-eight. The number of times his parents would ring the bell at the family shrine to welcome the new year. At least he liked his number. He rose and brushed himself off slightly, before tracing the Japanese word for person on his hand and swallowing it to quell his nerves. He stepped up to the stage, and just as he was about to say "Neutral" and decidedly stay out of the whole mess...he managed to catch the eye of the principal. Oh, how he wished he hadn't. Those eyes could shake worlds and, apparently, they were good at changing the minds of a boy like himself.
"H-Hello." The microphone was so loud! His face flushed lightly, a bit startled by the sound of his voice reverberating though the room. "I will...ah..."
He paused. The silence hung in the air as he tried to pick a team, not having thought about it before he was called up to the stage. Red was a lucky color, right? Oh, he couldn't stall any longer to think. It wouldn't be polite. He took a deep breath and quickly said, "I will join the Red Team. Please take care of me. Thank you," before his feet took him a step backwards. He bowed shallowly before stumbling down the stairs, shaky from having so much attention directed his way.
It would suffice to say, Kiku was not looking too forward to the new year. But, hopefully, he would be able to make a few new friends to cushion his worries.
