Name and Number: Roderich Edelstein, 512 (five-twelve)
Nation: Austria (Republik Österreich)
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Year: Senior
Birthday: October 26
Team: Red
Personality: Roderich is a seemingly cold and snobbish character, who never shows his emotions. Always taking notion of the rules, he is one that can never, or rarely, be caught doing something out of order. He has one major flaw: he tends to be late. Due to his horrible sense of direction, he is often late for appointments or meetings. He does manage to go to classes on time, after a few years he managed to memorize the school layout. Well, most of it. He dislikes when things are out of order, although he tends to be lazy when it comes to his own things.
The one thing he actually really likes is music. He is very gifted in this area too, as he can play the piano, violin and a bunch of other instruments, and he composes music too.
He doesn’t really like doing anything that seems like hard work, but when motivated enough Roderich can do it perfectly- as long as it isn’t open combat. He isn’t much of an outdoors person, and dislikes the sea and sea-creatures. He’d rather sit inside, enjoying the scenery, reading or playing some music. He also enjoys baking cakes, but he prefers to keep this to himself.
History: Roderich grew up in Vienna, Austria, in a semi-aristocratic family. Which is to say, he learned all the etiquette, and developed a façade. From young, his parents drilled him into the star student and gentleman he would become. As a young aloof child, he didn’t really like this regime of his parents, and for behaving ‘strange’, he was often bullied by other children. The mysterious death of his father when he was ten changed the situation. Roderich grew up quickly under the circumstances, as his mother was away a lot, and they moved to a lot of countries. He developed a liking for the instruments he was forced to learn from young age, and felt comforted by the sounds of piano and violin when they had moved again and he had to abandon all the friends he had made. He also found that all the languages he had learned were very useful. Roderich started wearing glasses, even though his eyes were perfectly fine, just for the pretence. He found out that people didn’t expect him to see anything clearly, but he developed a very sharp eye and often analyzed people.
His mother had decided to send him to a school in the USA. By then Roderich had a faint idea what was going on – all the hushed conversations, quick decisions to move again, his mother being away from home for longer periods, all the mysterious documents that were hidden the moment he came into the room… And then she sent him to this school. For an inexplicable reason, she sent him to go by ship, instead of plane, and being surrounded by only the blue ocean as far as the eye reaches wasn’t his nicest experience, as he grew up with only mountains and hills as his surroundings. Ever since, Roderich dislikes the sea.
School Identity: Senior Student. Particularly good with music, thus part of the music association and the orchestra. And well, perhaps the cooking club.
Skills: Knows many languages and knows etiquette. Can play any string instrument. Can bake very nice cakes. When it comes to school he can imitate any culture quite well, and blend into royal or presidential households easily. Has very sharp hearing and keen eyes.
RP Sample: The auditorium. A huge space, with all of the school present. All of the students listening to the principle. Roderich was listening as well, with a straight back, and yet scanned the room all the while he was listening. Then the principle changed his tone, and Roderich, who was currently trying to figure out what that second year in the back was trying to paste onto the person in front of him – probably something gross like chewing gum – turned his head to pay full attention. As the ‘game’ and its rules were explained, Roderich inwardly groaned. This probably meant physical work, and a lot of dirty tricks.
Roderich was considering to choose white, just for the sake of safety, when he saw how fired up the others were. He then thought it might be an advantage, and he might even become stronger through this. A small smile appeared on his otherwise stoic face. And what, extra assignments? He didn’t like the sound of extra homework.
Quite a number of the students he saw, he recognized. Blue, Red, Blue… He had been right, many had been looking forward to compete with each other.
“Male, Austria. Number 512.”
As he pushed his glasses – which were fake, his eyes were perfectly fine – higher up his nose, he stood and walked towards the stage. All the while he kept wondering… In both teams were people he quite disliked. But he was starting to like the idea of this competition, so he knew he wouldn’t choose white.
Roderich scanned the room again, from where he stood he could see all the students. That second-year had apparently succeeded in sticking ‘something’ onto that other student’s back, as he was laughing about it with what appeared to be his friend. Roderich scraped his throat. Good. They were watching. With a straight back and the stern look he always had on his face, Roderich spoke clearly into the microphone. “I will be on the red team. I look forward to this year.” He wasn’t sure about it. Either being on the red team, or looking forward to the year. But he had always been able to lie with a straight face. Oh well, who knows. It might be fun.
